DENH 2264 Periodontics for the Dental Hygienist

Periodontal diseases are multi-factorial bacterial infections within the oral cavity that affects over half of the U.S. population. Periodontal diseases not only affect the oral cavity but can impact other parts of the body. Periodontics is the branch of dentistry which encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth. Dental Hygienists play a critical role in the assessment, classification, and treatment of these diseases. Students learn concepts that are directly applicable to the dental hygiene process of care, including assessment, dental hygiene diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation.
