Students Whose First Language is Not English
Lack of English skills will not be a barrier to college admission or participation. We take appropriate measures to assess each student’s academic readiness. The course placement process assigns students to the appropriate course levels at Normandale or helps determine whether the student must first strengthen their English language skills in order to maximize the potential for academic success. Students will be provided with campus services or are referred to community services that will better prepare them for college participation.
Normandale offers an excellent program through the Department of English called English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to help students prepare for the many English language demands of their future academic career. Course placement information will be used to place students in the correct level of the program - the level that will best support their learning needs and where they will be most successful. More information is available on the Course Placement page of the Normandale website.
